Many of you may (or may not) know that I am very fond of the outdoors. In winter I really love to cross country ski, and virtually the only place I go is the Alta trail. Although there is an abundance of places to ski, it seems I always end up in Alta because of convenience, track conditions, and the fantastic views. While on a ski with a friend there the other day, I happened to remember my camera. I am glad that I did! The views were wonderful (as was the weather) and I got this shot. With something like this to look at, how can exercise be unexciting? To access the Alta trail, turn into the parking lot of the Alta School. The trail is just behind the new Alta Library – please be mindful though, the Library and School have kindly asked us skiers not to utilize their parking facilities.
Teton Valley Trails and Pathways is a non-profit organization that maintains this wonderful trail, among others. The Teton Springs trail is truly beautiful (and admittedly more groomed than Alta), the Teton Canyon trail is most likely the most popular among locals and others are on their list of winter priorities. Please don’t think that these are the only places for a cross country skier (or skater), there are many trails, from the Moose Creek Canyon to Leigh Creek, the choices are abundant, and as always in Teton Valley, the views will be pretty darn nice as well. I urge you all to enjoy the winter wonder of this great place!
